Who We Are
We are Whitireia creative writing students. We love words. And who doesn’t love competitions?
We saw this concept of specific-length flash-fiction, and really liked the idea. We thought it was a unique challenge to ask people to stick to the tight word count. So 111 Emergency Words was born.

This competition is open to national entries, and the topic of submissions can be anything as long as it’s within the “emergency services” theme.
Entries must be exactly 111 words long!
In each of the three emergency services categories one winner and two runners up will be selected, based on public voting. An overall winner will also be chosen.
Between 12 and 18 June the fire finalists will be unlocked and the public will be asked to vote on their favourites.
Between 19 and 25 June the ambulance finalists will be unlocked and the public will be asked to vote on their favourites.
Between 26 June and 2 July the police finalists will be unlocked and the public will be asked to vote on their favourites.
Between 3 and 9 July there will be a final public vote for an overall winner from the category winners and runners-up.
10 July the overall winner will be announced.
